saw this blog last sep/09 while looking into my daughters dv6000 wireless failure, contacted HP but was 17 days out of extended warranty. Long story short after writing to president of HP canada around christmas and warning of intent to join class action laptop fixed with new moboard this week at no cost in 48 hours!!!
So if you havent written to Paul Tsaparis yet might be worth a try.)

"Brad - good information. I tried to find an email address for Paul Tsaparis, but not luck. Then found out that Peter Galanis has replaced him. Do you have an email address for Peter Galanis, or even for Paul Tsaparis. It would surely help, as I have an email written just waiting to be sent...

I purchased a HP dv6-1124ca on July 17, 2010. The motherboard went bad after a short time frame, and was replaced. The replacement motherboard went bad approximately two months ago. It is now sitting here un-useable. The store where it was repaired wants to charge over $400 for another board. HP tells me that the warranty has expired. Two bad boards in a little over a year is rediculous. Sign me up for that class action law suit.

Hp, I won't purchase an HP computer again, and who ever else I can recommend not to...

I own a computer repair shop and I couldn't do anything but echo the comments of the folks here. I see the HP DV series all the time and would never let a customer buy one.

On the other side of the fence, I use an HP Mini 110 when I'm out of the shop due to it's 3G capabilities and I couldn't be happier.

I think consumers need to do a little more research in purchasing a computer vs just buying the cheapest thing out there. For instance, HP has the worst 3 year break record of most manufacturers. Of the larger companies, ASUS and Toshiba lead the pack in reliability.

An update,
We're grinding along- put a used MB in the HP and it works great(for how long??) then lawyer Bruce wanted it for evidence along with the dead MB. We are collecting emails and names of people who are interested in the suit- you can email Bruce directly, but as I understand things there is no risk to anyone who joins the suit, this risk will be borne by the lawyer co. Bruce Lemer...blemer@gkn.ca

I know others with the same problem with the DV6000. Hewlett Packard are completely irresponsible. You should not expect to pay so much for something which lasts less than 5 years. They will be the losers in the long run.

Don't buy Hewlett Packard. My Pavillion DV6000 is less than 3 years old and I spent over £800. The motherboard has failed for the third time and Hewlett Packard want over £200 to fix it. Millions of consumers have the same problem wit the Pavillion DV6000. One long two short beeps and a blank screen. Hewlett Packard know very well that the fault is with their design and yet they are treating their customers with utter contempt. I hope Hewlett Packard go to the wall.
