David, I think you just touched the biggest problem of computer safety: the Dark Forces are usually one step ahead of common users, so just ANY tool that alleviates access to inaccessible (for any reason) data, or alleviates just any other task will be primarily used by those who plan evil. Bringing your computer to a repair shop or calling a repair guy could be a way out, but even that way you can’t be sure of the outcome.

I agree. Laptops are harder and more expensive to fix and don’t last as long. They certainly don’t have the airflow. But they seem to be predominating unfortunately. I much, much prefer desktops.

Nowadays you need multiple anti-spyware removal software to have reasonable protection against spyware/trojan and malware. Sometimes I have to remove the hard drive and scan them with another computer to clean it.

I sometimes open too many browser windows and forget about it… until it hangs or crashes. Just need to have less windows open at a time.
